“Why won’t Dylan answer my call?” I thought out loud. “Is this whole thing a waste of time?”
In fact, my so-called best friends Tiffany and Layla invited me to a “BFF Sleepover” the other day. But I politely refused. I mean, I’m a gamer girl, not a girl who loves shopping and makeup and nail polish and all that stuff. Instead of that, I was sitting at my pale green MacBook Air (which Layla chose for me because “it brought out the green in my eyes” for some reason), booting up Minecraft and calling my friend Dylan on Discord.
And finally, a few minutes later, a pair of frosty, blue eyes suddenly appeared on my computer.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!” I screamed and jumped back.
“Hellooooooooo Calliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie - oh, sorry, didn’t mean to scare you there” Dylan drawled.
Having recovered from that, I squeaked “Uh, hi Dylan? What took you so long?”
“I don’t knoooooooooooooooooow? Can we play Minecraft? Join HYPIXEL!” he shouted.
I know, I have some explaining to do. Last Friday, at lunchtime, I was telling Tiffany and Layla about Minecraft, the best video game ever, but OBVIOUSLY they weren’t interested. They just completely ignored me and continued talking. And then, I saw Dylan out of the corner of my eye, talking about Minecraft to his friends Jake, Zak, and Lucas. So I decided to join them.
“Hey, can I sit here?” I asked.
“Uh, sure.” Zak replied.
So I pretty much joined in their conversation until the end of lunch. I’m pretty sure they were impressed at how much a girl like me knew about Minecraft! But they had one more challenge in store for me.
“Callie?” Dylan asked.
“Yeah?”
“Wanna PvP duel in Minecraft this Sunday afternoon?
“Sure! Can’t wait!” I was literally bursting with joy. Once and for all, I would prove that I was as good, or even better at Minecraft than I seemed.
So now, a snowy Sunday afternoon in November, the two duelers are getting ready to battle: me and Dylan.
“Ok, I’ll join Hypixel, but, one thing, what’s the address?” I asked.
Laughing really hard, Dylan said “Why am I not surprised? It’s mx.hypixel.net.”
“Okay, okay. Let me join.”
“So, are you ready to lose?” he asked me.
With a straight face, I happily answered “YES!”
For some reason, Dylan could not stop laughing. “Are you sure?”
“YESSSS!!!”
“Really. Are you really sure?” He was still giggling.
“YES - oh wait… NO THAT’S NOT WHAT I MEANT I JUST MEANT THAT I WAS READY NOT THAT -” I screamed.
Still chuckling, Dylan said “Relax, let’s just start the game.” And he pressed Start. 3… 2… 1…
