What is cheating and how do you avoid it?

By-Tay

It’s the night before the test. Your palms are sweating, your feet are shaking, and your brain is about to explode just because you are studying with the textbook. Should you put in the simple effort for another 30 minutes to study or should you watch a 5 minute crafts video on how to cheat on your test? Well, let’s do the right thing by making our parents proud by CHEATING ON THE TEST!

okay okay. Cheating isn't the best thing to do to make your parents proud just to get that new Barbie Doll at Target. You see, even though cheating on this 1 test might not do too much damage, IT CAN DO ALOT OF DAMAGE. This test may have some knowledge that you will need for college and when you go to your college graduation, they will announce that, “(insert name here) will not be graduating due to them not knowing how to spell the word ‘cat’ ”. And if you don’t know how to spell cat, I just gave it to you.

What is cheating?

According to Wikipedia, Cheating is…

*takes deep breath

Cheating generally describes various actions designed to subvert rules in order to obtain unfair advantages. This includes acts of bribery, cronyism and nepotism in any situation where individuals are given preference using inappropriate criteria.[1] The rules infringed may be explicit, or they may be from an unwritten code of conduct based on morality, ethics or custom, making the identification of cheating conduct a potentially subjective process. Cheating can refer specifically to infidelity. Someone who is known for cheating is referred to as a cheat in British English, and a cheater in American English. A person described as a "cheat" doesn't necessarily cheat all the time, but rather, relies on deceitful tactics to the point of acquiring a reputation for it.

*exhales

See? That was simple. Ok ok, let me describe it in one sentence.

Cheating is basically using a reference like a computer, paper, or even things written on your hand to help you get certain answers right on a quiz, test, exam, or assessment.

Here is an example: Let’s say that Lela was your teacher and she gave you a vocabulary quiz from her Vocabulary of the Week article. You found her article and pulled it up during the test so your mom and dad would be proud that you knew what “Obloquy” means (By the way it means If you are on the receiving end of obloquy, then society has turned against you and you are in a state of disgrace. Kinda if like you cheat then society finds out and then you would be in a state of disgrace and they turn on you).

If you're one of these people who like to cheat, it is mostly so you can impress someone or seem smart. And that’s okay. We live in a very tense social world of popularity and drama. (Obloquy)

Why and how you stop cheating

Here are some tips and ideas on how to stop cheating on a test from professional contributors on wikiHow.
