The Hunger Games-Book Review!

By- Tay

The Hunger Games is a book by Suzanne Collins where the country of Panem is run by the beautiful/evil/corrupt Capitol (the capital of the country/main city) where the 12 districts who live in eternal pain have to face one of the worst days of the year for 12-18 year olds. The Reaping. The Reaping is where they choose a male and female tribute from a district, 12 districts in total. At the end, the 24 tributes battle to the death to keep them in line and to remember they are always living in fear and no one can defeat the Capitol.

Sixteen year-old Katniss Everdeen is a citizen of district 12, living with her widowed mother and 12 year old sister, Prim. They attend the Reaping, Katniss isn’t picked.

It’s Prim.

Katniss volunteers to protect her sister from the death and suffering of the life of tributes, where 23 of them would be dead in 2 weeks. She knows her chances of winning are extremely low, but she has to win.

For herself.

For Prim and Mother.

To win, she needs to make choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I think the Hunger Games is a great book. I was forcefully made to watch the movie, thinking it was pure torture. Until I watched the whole thing. It is a heart touching, heart breaking, heart healing book. I think anyone as young as 6th grade can read it. It helps at that age because you can put your feet in their shoes, and imagine what it was like to be forced into that situation. Love it. Love you guys too!
