Book Review: Interstellar - By Felicia

Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

This book, "Interstellar", by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, tells the story of an astronaut named Cooper who leaves his children Murph, aged 10, and Tom, aged 15, to take a look at a wormhole situated near Saturn. The wormhole cannot have occured naturally... the only possible thing that could have happened is that they placed it there. Who are they? No one knows. This is why Cooper was sent to space. During his voyage, he encounters many obstacles, such as the universe turning inside-out when he enters the wormhole. One part that left me on a cliffhanger was when a traitor, Mann, punched his space helmet. It then cracked, exposing Cooper to Saturn's toxic air. He had only seconds left to live when he was rescued. Whoa. This book really made me reflect on my beliefs on the dimensions. By dimensions, I mean the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th dimensions. The Missing series by Margaret Haddix made me realize that the fourth dimension was time, and this book made me realize that the fifth dimension is gravity. At the end of this book, when Cooper came back home, Murph was a little old lady, but Cooper was thirty-three years old... This is what wormholes do. Then, Murph said something that moved my heart: "A father looks in his child's eyes and thinks - maybe it's them - maybe my child will save the world. And everyone, once a child, wants to look into their dad's eyes and know he saw. But usually, by then, the father is gone." Well, at the end, Murph got to look into her dad's eyes and know that he saw. Cooper must have felt so proud! That moment was so heartwarming. This book has lots of ups and downs, so I would recommend this book to anyone who loves action, science-fiction, or both. I only rate this book 4 stars out of 5 because the story can be a bit hard to follow at times, plus the writing is very small. If you don't like reading but still enjoy this topic, there is a movie available, which I haven't watched yet but I will watch tomorrow.
