All about Hip-hop

All about Hip-hop - By Elena

Even if it sounds weird that hip-hop is a sport, it is!

I practice the art of hip hop! It is a beautiful way of dancing. I just love the rapping music. So here I will tell you how this all started.

Hip-hop was created by African Americans, Latino Americans and Caribbean Americans in the Bronx, New York City.

If you guys didn’t know, Hip-hop has been a powerful medium for protesting the impact in legal institutions on minorities, particularly police and prisons. Also, on August 11th 1973 a DJ called DJ Cool Herc was at his sister’s Back-to-school party. He made a beautiful rap song with 2 records. Kool Herc’s sister, Cindy Campbell, produced and funded the Back-to school party that became the “ Birth of Hip-hop”! Herc's experiments with making music with record players became what we now know as breaking or "scratching!

Hip-hop is also one of the most famous types of dance in the world and is used for a lot of music videos for singers. Sometimes people get mixed up with break-dance and hip-hop. Those dances are really similar so here is the difference, hip-hop is a style of dance that uses quick moments, and requires a lot of athleticism. While break-dancing is known as an early form of hip-hop,and in “breaking” there are moves done with both hands and feet on the floor and also spinning on the head and shoulders. So now you know the difference between hip-hop and break-dance

This is a video that I chose personally for you guys. These are some kids doing hip-hop. Here is the video:

This Hip-hop, a beautiful form of dance and a demanding sporting activity, also seems to convey a message of kind protest from minorities, neglected by the institutions in many parts of the world... Brava Elena!
