1940s Makeup Items!

By - Tay

Hey guys! Today we will be looking at 1940s style makeup! The reason why I’m making this article is because I’m in Drama Club and my director said I need to wear makeup for the photoshoot. Our play is a radio play called “The 39 Steps” by Alfred Hitchcock Even though I’m a boy, I still have to wear lipstick and stuff like that. These makeup designs can be used for stage play or just for fun!

  1. Matte Foundation- that matches your skin tone. Some good options are L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte, Wet n Wild Photo Focus, or Milani Conceal and Perfect (NO GLITTER). All can be found at places such as Target and Ulta Beauty Store.

  2. Powder- Any loose powder to set your foundation. If you want to be authentic get Coty Airspun from Amazon. Otherwise any loose powder will work just fine. Just try to find a shade that matches your skin tone and foundation (NO GLITTER).

  3. Blush- In the 40s they would use cream blush but powder works too. Get a rose-pink shade.

  4. Eyebrow Pencil- Match the color or select one shade darker than your natural color. Some good options are NYX Micro Brow, ELF Eyebrow Enhancer, or Maybelline Brow Precise.

  5. Eye Shadow- (ONLY GIRLS) Find a matte shade that is similar to your eye color. Don’t get a shadow that has a shimmer or glitter in it. It can be a little harder to find a single shade at the drugstore so you may have to purchase a small quad or duo. Try looking at CoverGirl and Maybelline for options. You can also look at MAC for some great single shadows.

  6. Eyeliner- a brown or black pencil is easiest to use. CoverGirl Perfect Blend is good. If you are getting a MAC single shadow, their Kohl Powder Eye Pencil or Pro Longwear Pencil is good but in the $20 USD range.

  7. Mascara- Any black or brown mascara will work. I recommend L’Oreal Lash Paradise

  8. Lipstick- Matte lipstick. Girls should wear any shade of red. For boys, purchase a natural shade. Make sure the lipstick is matte and doesn’t have any glitter or shine.

  9. Other- Mirror, Foundation Brush and Sponge, Blush/Powder Brush, and other brushes that you need.
